Melinda Howard is a pretty young lady who has been singing with a troupe abroad. She wants to surprise her mother with a return back home. Melinda thinks her mother has a mansion on Manhattan and is a Broadway star, but in reality she is just a played-out cabaret singer who loves to drink. When she arrives at the mansion, she is welcomed by the owner, Adolph Hubbell, who is a Broadway producer. Hubbell likes Melinda and decides to star her in his next production. Melinda is happy with how everything is going, yet she has not been able to see her mother who keeps making excuses.
