A 10-year-long vicious war has been going on between settlers and Cochise's Chiricahua Apaches. Former Civil War soldier Tom Jeffords changes his views on the Indians after saving the life of an Apache boy, which leads him to making himself an ambassador. He begins a relationship with Apache war chief Cochise. From there General Howard comes forward with a message of peace from the President, but the history between the two sides is too deep to forget. During the process Tom falls in love with and marries Sonseeahray who is eventually killed by white men who want the wars to continue so they can steal gold from the reservation mountains.
