After County Attorney Dave Connors assists Julian Norman with her lethargic father, Jefferson Norman, she leaves the city of Jericho to study for a law degree. A few years pass and Algeria Wedge, the new bride of Dave's best friend, Tucker Wedge, presents a proposition to Dave, much to the dissatisfaction of Dave's drunken wife, Belle. Resentful by Dave's refusal, Algeria convinces the state political boss to support Tucker for a Congress race against Dave.
