My Dear Secretary is a romantic comedy film distributed by United Artists in 1948 and directed by Charles Martin.
A bestselling novelist and a womanizer, Owen Waterbury presents a lecture at a local school where he meets Stephanie, nicknamed Steve, Gaylord. Since his latest secretary, Elsie, has recently quit, he offers the job to Steve and she happily accepts, impressed to be working for a famous author.
When she shows up for work she is a bit taken aback to discover that the office is actually Owen’s apartment and the work seems more like playing to her. Add to the mix Owen’s neighbor and friend, songwriter Ronnie Hastings, Mrs. Reeves, the busybody apartment owner, and May, the building’s maid, and there’s not much work being done.
Steve is less than thrilled with the comings and goings interrupting the work day, and quits, only to have Owen decide he really needs her and so he pursues her to convince her to marry him.
