The film takes place at a Macy's Department Store Thanksgiving Day parade. The man playing Santa is found drunk by an old man. Doris Walker, the special events director, convinces the old man to play Santa. The old man does his job well as Santa and substantiates to be a phenomenon. The store immediately hires him to be Santa at the main Macy store. Although he does his job well, Ms. Walker finds out that he goes by the name of Kris Kringle and declares he is the real Santa. She has him checked by the doctor to see if he is insane and although the doctor says he is fine, she still has apprehensions. Especially since she does not believe in any sort of fantasy and has taught her daughter Susan the same as well. Everyone along with Susan find there is something special and different with Kris.
