Rip Smith runs an opinion-poll business, but it’s not very successful until he learns of a small town called Grandview that has identical statistics to the rest of the country. He travels with his assistant to run polls there without letting the townspeople know what he’s there for. Civic crusader Mary Peterman gives Rip a hard time but things change for the both of them when romantic feelings come to the surface.
