Libby is a poor girl with no education, living with her parents who could care less about her. She becomes interested in a San Quentin inmate named Barry who is crazy and unpredictable when the road gang arrives in town to build a new road. Even though Jeff Barker, a stand-up engineer, is interested in her, she still chooses Barry and even helps him to hide after he escapes.
