Laurent van Horn is the forerunner to a group of Dutch renegades on a ship in search of liberty in the Carolinas.  Problems arise for the group after their ship is destructed on the coast of Cartagene that is ruled by the Spaniard Don Juan Alvarado. Alvarado imprisons Laurent, yet he manages to escape. Five years pass by and he becomes a leader to pirates. He pretends to be the guy navigating the ship that has the daughter of a distinguished Mexican man, Contessa Francesca who is on route to become the arranged wife of Alvarado. Laurent's pirates take over the ship along with Francesca. They end up marrying in each other and from there a slew of problems begin.
