A young femme fatale discovers that the rich man she has married is a wicked vagabond.
The film revolves around, Charlie Mason, an army officer who travels to San Francisco to find his former lover. When his plane hits bad weather, he is forced to land in New Orleans and wait out the storm. In the meantime, he is confronted by a drunk who persuades him that to take away his sorrow, he should accompany the drunk to a whorehouse.
He meets, Jackie Lamont at the whorehouse but instead of drinking and using this type of location to his advantage, the two decide instead to attend church. Soon, the female character Jackie is sharing her emotional issues with Mason and a flashback scene is shown from her earlier life experiences.
The film garnished one Oscar for Best Music.
