The film is set in England during World War II, where two people encounter one another and talk about their lives and people they both know. Their stories bring up the life of the caring and wealthy Clarissa Richmond who was beautiful and her relationship with angry and poor Hesther Snow. Clarissa marries the good looking but malicious Marquis of Rohan and Hesther becomes an actress. They run into each other again and Clarissa invites Hesther to stay at her house. Hesther plans to take everything she feels is hers, while Clarissa is determined to find her real love.
