To her surprise, they receive a letter from Charlie out of nowhere, informing them that he is going to stay with them for some time. When Charlie Oakley arrives he brings life to the town and is very popular with the women. He even impresses the bank president where his brother-in-law works at. Charlotte starts to become aware of peculiar behavior from her uncle, for he cuts a story out of the newspaper about a man who marries wealthy widows and kills them afterwards. Her thoughts worsen when two unknown visitors inquire about him. She begins to fear the worst about her loving uncle.
