Michael Banyan is a stranger in Sunivak, Alaska who is being treated with suspicion and hostility. To get his revenge, he starts a false rumor that the U.S. is at war. The town is cut off from the outside when the weather station's receiver is sabotaged by a local fifth columnist, and fails to learn about Pearl Harbor. The Japanese attack the town.
