A pilot by the name of Pete Sandidge flys a B-25 Mitchell bomber out of England during World War II.  He is beginning to fall in love with another female pilot, Dorinda Durston, but decided to take one more flying mission.  He is soon wounded by an attack from an enemy fighter on his way to check out a German aircraft carrier.   He finds himself in heaven but later comes back to earth and begins working as a pilot instructor.  He is the instructor for a young man, Ted Randall who later is sent to work in England.  Ted becomes attracted to Dorinda who is still in love with Pete who to her knowledge is gone forever.  Pete realizes it is his place not pursue her love but instead do his job of being Ted's guardian angel and help him pursue his romance with Dorinda.
