A young woman named Stanley leaves her fiancée to run off with her sister's husband, Peter. They marry one another and begin their new life in Baltimore, where Stanley is nothing but a problem to Peter which leads him to commit suicide. She comes back to Richmond to find that her sister and old love Craig are in love and engaged. Stanley becomes envious of the relationship and tries to win Craig back.
