Tommy Rogers is the new part owner of The Phelps Department Store and wants to sell it if Martha Phelps, the original owner allows him to. The manager of the store does not want the store to sell, for the malfunctions in the book will be revealed. After someone tries to Kill Tommy, Martha hires a detective by the name of Wolf J. Flywheel, who happens to be the worst at his job.
