Kathleen is a 12 year old girl living in an enormous house with a nanny, a butler, and maids. Yet she does not have a mother and a father who spends most of his time working. She yearns to have a real family with a mother and lies to her friends that she has a family. Since her story is not true, she never has friends over her house. Kathleen cannot fathom her nanny, Mrs. Farrell, so her father lets her go. He appoints a psychologist, Dr. Kent to be the new nanny. Her father’s new girlfriend, Lorraine, is not very warm with Kathleen. He is thinking about making her his new wife. This upsets Kathleen and she thinks Dr. Kent would make a great mother and a better match for her father.
