Gene Autry and Frog Millhouse meet up with Caroline Stanhope and her father whom have just arrived into town to register her horse in the rodeo. They have high hopes to win enough money or they will lose their home in Carolina. Gene advices her that her horse is too passionate for the pandemonium and excitement of the rodeo.  She still enters her horse, which ends up with a sprained ankle. The Colonel ends up losing a thousand dollars on a bet to some criminals. He does not want to give his only horse to the criminals. Gene, feeling bad for the Colonel proposes a thousand dollars to Stanhope for the horse. Caroline starts to believe that Gene is teaming up with the criminals and travels back to Carolina. Gene goes after her.
