Mary is a young orphan girl in Cornwall who is ordered to live with her Aunt Patience and Uncle Joss who are the proprietors of the Jamaica Inn. Mary quickly discovers that the inn is being used by a group of ship wreckers to attract ships to crash on the staggering coast. The young girl becomes frightened that they will discover her knowing about their secret.
