Nan Masters has raised four daughters on her own and is engaged to be married to a businessman named Sam Sloane.  To everyone’s surprise, her first husband Jim arrives after leaving the family 20 years ago.  He is not well received at first, but all his daughters begin to love him for his kindness.  His youngest daughter, Buff, is interested in a man of whom her father approves and plans to run off with him to get married on the same day as her mother’s wedding.
