Swashbuckler Gil de Berault is bound for the guillotine when he is given one last chance for a pardon by Cardinal Richelieu. He must hunt down and dispose of a duke who is believed to be leading a band of Huguenots, who are determined to overthrow Louis XIII. He infiltrates the Duke's fortress, but finds himself smitten by the duke's attractive sister. Now he must find a way to preserve the duke's life without losing his own.
