Emile Zola was a poor writer until he finally wrote his best-seller, Nana, while living in an apartment with painter Paul Cezanne in Paris. He could never keep a job, for he was very opinionated. Most of the film is about his connection in the case of Captain Alfred Dreyfus who was sent to life in prison on Devil's Island after being falsely
convicted of working with the Germans.
