The new provincial Governor has been killed by the Commandant, who wishes to continue his iron fisted rule over the peasants of Spanish California.  The Commandant has succeeded in framing the murder on the people’s champion , Zorro, secretly aristocrat Don Diego.  Zorro must evade the authorities to clear his name, bring the true killer to justice and save the poor people of the province.  This is the first Republic film made in color.
