The film centers on the story of a Boston dance teacher who is captured by buccaneers.
Jonathon Pride is a dance instructor, who resides in Boston. He is captured by pirates and forced to live on their ship as a slave. He later escapes and trying to find safety, the nearest town is warned of his coming and they think he is actually a pirate as well. He is captured and sentenced to death until the women of the village realize, he is not a pirate but instead a dancing instructor.
They choose to delay his execution so one of the main female characters, Serafina can be taught the waltz by Jonathon along with other women in the village. Later her future husband, Don Balthazar comes to the village to marry her and he also has plans to execute Jonathon.
Jonathon escapes and comes across some Indians. He is later challenged to a duel with Don Balthazar and Jonathon manages to win using his dancing skills in the fight.
