Joe is a reporter finally gets a big break when he begins to write George Gorman's sports column. Marty is a small time criminal who can fix any sporting event. While Joe is away, his wife Maxine gets involved with Marty, for she wants a better lifestyle. She ends up owing Marty money, which destroys Joe’s career and he becomes an alcoholic. Connie is determined to bring back the old Joe since she has had feelings for him.
