After the Civil War, an ex-Union army officer takes a job as a schoolteacher in a small anti-Yankee Indiana town. He soon becomes involved in local politics, trying to remove the crooked politicians from office that have kept government land promised to war veterans to themselves. He also manages to confront the town bully, who has been harrassing heroine Charlotte Henry.
