U.S. Marshall John Travers learns that a mysterious villain known only as the Shadow is behind a rash of stagecoach robberies and murders around the town of Little Rock. After learning that the last three sheriffs of the town have been murdered, and their murders have never been solved, Travers takes the job, along with his Indian sidekick, Yak, as deputy. Together they discover a series of tunnels that lead from the Sherriff's office directly to the villain's hideout. However, before Travers can deal with the mysterious scoundrel, he needs to rescue heroine Anita from the threat of the Shadow!

The Star Packer was filmed in Newhall, California.
The Matlock ranch house was the same set that was used in "The Desert Trail" and "Blue Steel".
