Randy Bowers is framed for multiple murders by bandits led by Matt the Mute. Matt the Mute is working for the sheriff, who has been fooled into to thinking that Matt the Mute is really a good guy. Sally Rogers, the niece of one of the murdered victims, helps Randy escape the town and they stumble upon a cave that the gang is using as their hideout, and Sally is kidnapped. How can Randy rescue Sally, clear his name and capture the real murderers?

The working title of this film was Randy Rides Again.
Production was delayed due to an illness that John Wayne had.
This is one of a series of B-budget westerns that Wayne did throughout the 1930's before getting his big break in John Ford's Stagecoach in 1939.
