This romantic comedy film is based on the theatrical play, "The House of Connelly" where the plot revolves around a post civil war family that attempts to regain it's level of prestige that it was accustomed to prior to the war.
The Connelly family is happy to hear when Will Connelly weds a Yankee farm girl, Joanna Tate, during the Civil War Reconstruction. He marries Joanna even though his hot-tempered father disapproves of the union.
