Dick Wallace is the irresponsible playboy son of a business magnate who wants him to get to work running the family business.  Dick just wants to play however, and falls in love with Marion Hall, a small town girl , and proposes.  Dick's father does not approve of the marriage, believing her to be a gold digger.  She takes a job to show Dick's father that she is different, but it ends up being Dick who is reverting to his old ways.  Can he straighten up and do the right thing for his family and his wife to be?
 
Notes:

His Private Secretary was one of a few movies where John Wayne was working on developing his persona as the Duke.  Watch towards the end when Dick confronts his father to see a glimmer of what we now know was to come.
