Emperor Nero blames the Christians after the burning of Rome and is sent to the arena to die. Marcus is the highest ranking military official in Rome who runs into two Christians who are about to be sent to the arena . He frees them after seeing their stepdaughter Mercia, who he immediately falls in love with. He encounters problems with the emperor for being interested in Mercia, as well as the Empress who is in love with him.
