After an aging boxer is beaten by a young up-and-comer, he teams up with tough speakeasy owner Puff and takes advantage of a bad situation to make a better life for each other and his friend’s young boy by moving to the suburbs and raising young Ted as his own. Ted becomes a football star with a good chance of going into college, but Ted turns his interest to boxing, causing Stag's old life to catch up to him.
