The Vagabond Lover

(1931)

66 minutes.

Musical

Directed by Marshall Nielan

Cast: Rudy Vallee

Rudy Vallee was one of the most popular and influential crooners of his day, a contemporary Al Jolson.  Rudy pioneered a soft style of crooning, and sung in English, Spanish, French and Italian, amplified by use of a megaphone, a technique which inspired future superstars Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra.  Already a huge star on radio, the 1929 movie The Vagabond Lover gave audiences their first chance to see Vallee perform, which helped make him an instant heartthrob of the day, with several hit songs featured in the movie, including “I’m Just a Vagabond Lover”, “I Love You, Believe Me I Love You”, “If You Were the Only Girl in the World”, “I’ll Be Reminded of You”, and “A Little Kiss Each Morning”.
