Vela is the sarcastic captain of a slow ship carrying fugitives out of Germany. Cheyne is a young American doctor who is captured for a 3-month voyage to Brazil. He rescues a beautiful American heiress named Ethel Marley in the middle of the ocean. The ship’s cook keeps her hidden from the crew. Problems arise for Cheyne and Ethel as murder and mutiny creeps on them.
