This film is set in Tatums, Oklahoma, an all-black town where oil has been discovered.  Mart Ashton (Alfred Norcom) catches black gold fever and decides to sell his large herd of cattle to buy a drilling-rig and crew. Due to complications with a company that owns an adjoining tract of land and the Ranchman’s National Bank, drilling is delayed.  Out of money and in a pinch for time, Ashton is put in jail due to false charges, leaving his ranch foreman, Ace Brand (Steve ‘Peg’ Reynolds) and Ace’s sweetheart (Kathryn Boyd), to bring in the well.
