This film was originally a Broadway play which opened in 1922 and ran for a total of 2317 performances before closing in 1927. Then in 1928, the film version was released.
The story is about a young Jewish boy, Abie Levy and an Irish Catholic girl, Rosemary Murphy. The two fall in love and secretly get married, later telling his family that Rosemary is Jewish as well to keep his family from being upset with him.
The family later finds out that the youngsters come from different religious backgrounds, but with the birth of twin grandchildren, both sets of parents overcome their dissatisfaction with the religion issue and appreciate the lives of their grandchildren.
