Diana, Neville, and David are childhood friends and Diana has always known that she was in love with Nevs. Nevs’ father, Morton, was not fond of Diana’s family, therefore disapproved of any romance between them. Morton ordered Nevs to go to Egypt and work, for he had no money. He also convinced him not to marry Diana before leaving the country. After waiting two long years for Nevs, Diana decided to marry David. During a stay in Paris, David ends his life by jumping from a building, for the police were after him. Nevs is still in love with Diana, but she does not return to England for another seven years. She happens to arrive three days before Nevs marries Constance.
