The film begins in 1432 when François Villon’s father dies as a martyr due to his loyalty to France. Francois is only a baby when he does and grows up to be a prominent poet and devoted patriot. He is exiled by King Louis XI after he insults Duke Charles of Burgundy on All Fools Day. The King is fearful of Charles which is why he exiles Villon. Villion is determined to protect France from Charles’s devious plans, but is sentenced to death after he breaks off the engagement of Charles’ associate and the king’s ward, Charlotte. His plan is to expose Louis and marry Charlotte.
