Hester Prynne is a seamstress living in Puritan Boston who is corrected for recreating on the Sabbath day. Arthur Dimmesdale, the friendly minister grows fond of her, for he knows she is a good person. They immediately fall in love with one another, yet cannot be public about their relationship. Hester is already in a marriage to Roger Prynne, a doctor that has not been seen in seven years. Dimmesdale leaves to England on an assignment and returns home to a pregnant Hester. She is carrying their child and has the whole town’s attention and disapproval. She has to go through an embarrassing widespread service, where she is made to wear the scarlet letter A, signifying adultery for the rest of her days. Dimmesdale is pressured by the church fathers to talk with Hester about revealing the name of the father’s baby.
