A Western Engagement

(1925)

Comedy / Silent / Western

Directed by Paul Hurst

Cast: Dick Hatton and Marilyn Mills

Dick Rawlins (Dick Hatton) is a cowpoke working on the Jackson ranch. He is in love with the beautiful daughter of the ranch owner, Inez (Marilyn Mills). He plans to ask for her hand in marriage, so he goes to town to buy her a ring and borrows $500 from Bob. Dick gets fired from his job when he returns back to the ranch, for a stranger complained about him. He then falls to sleep and dreams he faked a suicide since Bob had asked him to do so in order to not pay his debts. The dream continues with an insane man named Dismal Dave being ordered by Bob to knock out Dick, but he escapes and finds out Inez is going to marry Bob. Dick wakes up to find out Bob was pulling a prank on him being fired. More good news comes his way as Bob informs him the stranger brought him a check for $10,000, for a piece of land Dick owns and has an option for one month's oil rights. Dick is thrilled to begin his new life with Inez.
