This two hour sampling of early animation opens with the short documentary, The Magic Lantern.  Then it is on to the actual cartoons which trace the growth of animation from early experiments to the first animation studios and then to the cartoon “stars” of the 1920's.  Among the selections are Winsor McCay's Gertie the Dinosaur and Sinking of the Lusitania, Willis O'Brien's The Dinosaur and the Missing Link , Raoul Barre's Cartoons on the Beach , Walt Disney's Newman's Laugh-O-Grams and Alice Solves a Puzzle, plus cartoons with Krazy Kat, Felix the Cat, Koko the Clown , Goodrich Dirt, Bobby Bumps and Oswald the Rabbit.  The selections conclude with Max Fleischer's documentary of how sound is added to animation: Finding His Voice.
