Lola Dexter is a poor young woman who falls in love with Walter Cosgrove. He provides her with an elegant apartment and promises to marry her. He ends up marrying Edith Danfield for her money after he loses his fortune. Edith is in a relationship with James Ashley, who is fighting overseas, but still marries Walter. Feeling angry from Walter’s actions, Lola decides to use men to her advantage and travels to Florida to start a new life, but quickly changes her perspective and attempts to kill herself. Her estranged father, Thomas Danfield, comes to her rescue by telling her to start a fresh life. They become close and return home to find Edith suffering from Walter’s abuse. In order to help Edith out, Lola has Walter come into her room. He tries to attack her, but dies from falling down the stairs in his drunken stage.
