Hearts of the World

(1918)

115 minutes

Drama / Silent film with music track

Directed by D.W. Griffith

Cast: Lillian Gish, Dorothy Gish, Robert Harron and Erich von Stroheim

The film takes place in a peaceful French town, where a group of teenagers live a nice life.  Things change for the worse when the German army arrives and takes charge of the town.  They bring nothing but abuse, completely changing the town.  The teenagers fight for what is theirs.

Notes of interest:  In a short prologue D. W. Griffith is shown setting up his camera in a British front line trench in Cambrin, only about 50 yards from enemy lines, and looking up at shells passing overhead. There is also a scene of British Prime Minister David Lloyd George wishing Griffith success with his film.
