WILLIAM DEVANE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

William Devane was born on September 5th 1939 in Albany, New York with the middle name Joseph.  His father, Joseph Devane was President Franklin D. Roosevelt's personal chauffeur.  Devane attended New York City's American Academy of Dramatic Arts after high school and then went on to pursue a career as a stage actor.
 
Some of his early Broadway productions included, "The Watering Place" and "The Chinese Dr. Fish".  He then broke into film roles appearing in, "In the Country" (1967) and the television movie, "The Missiles of October" (1974).
 
Other more prominent film roles soon followed such as, "McCabe & Mrs. Miller" (1971) starring Warren Beatty and Julie Christie, "Lady Liberty" (1971), "Family Plot" (1976), "Marathon Man" (1976), "The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training" (1977), "Red Alert" (1977), "Yanks" (1979) and then the unsuccessful film, "Honky Tonk Freeway" (1981). 

He then decided to see if he could have better luck working in the television industry and in was soon cast as Greg Sumner in the soap opera, "Knots Landing" a role he held on to for ten years.  Other television roles include, "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" (1994), "Early Edition" (1996-2000), "The West Wing" (1999), "24" (2001) and "NCIS" (2010).
 
Maintaining his name in Hollywood as a film actor he continued to add more film roles to his resume such as, "Exception to the Rule" (1997), "Payback" (1999), "Hollow Man" (2000), "Space Cowboys" (2000) starring Clint Eastwood, James Garner, Donald Sutherland and Tommie Lee Jones and "Poor White Trash" (2000), "
 
In addition to his career as an actor, he also owns a restaurant, Devane's that offers Italian cuisine.  He has various locations in Indio, La Quinta, Rancho Mirage and Palm Springs, California. 
 
William Devane has married only once to Eugenie Devane in 1961 and they have two children together.   Most recently, Devane was cast on the television series, "Revenge" (2012) with a recurring role as Grandpa Edward Grayson.  He also recently starred in two television movies, "Leprechaun's Revenge" and "Jesse Stone: Benefit of the Doubt" (both 2012) the latter starring Tom Selleck.
