WILFORD BRIMLEY BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Wilford Brimley was born on September 27th, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah with the birth name Anthony Wilford Brimley. He actually did not break into the acting industry until later in his adult life. He began working as a farmer and then blacksmith and only later did he pursue a career as an actor.
His career in the industry began in the 1960's working as a riding stuntman in a variety of westerns including such films as "True Grit" (1969) starring John Wayne, Glen Campbell, Kim Darby, Robert Duvall, Jeff Corey, Dennis Hopper, Donald Woods, John Fielder, James Westerfield and Strother Martin.
Some of his more well known film roles include, "The China Syndrome" (1979) starring Jane Fonda, Jack Lemmon, Michael Douglas, Scott Brady, James Hampton, Peter Donat and Richard Herd, "Brubaker" (1980) starring Robert Redford, Yaphet Kotto, Tim McIntire, Nathan George, David Keith, Everett McGill, Murray Hamilton, Matt Clark, M. Emmet Walsh and Jane Alexander, Morgan Freeman and Nicolas Cage, "Absence of Malice" (1981) starring Paul Newman and Sally Field, "The Thing" (1982) starring with Kurt Russell and Keith David, "Tender Mercies" (1983) starring Robert Duvall, Tess Harper, Betty Buckley, Ellen Barkin and Allan Hubbard, "The Hotel New Hampshire" (1984) starring alongside Jodie Foster, Beau Bridges, Rob Lowe and Nastassja Kinski, "Cocoon: The Return" (1988) starring Don Ameche, Hume Cronyn, Jessica Tandy, Maureen Stapleton, Gwen Verdon, Courtney Cox, Elaine Stritch, Jack Gilford and Steve Guttenberg and "The Firm" (1993) starring Tom Cruise, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Gene Hackman, Ed Harris, Holly Hunter, Hal Holbrook, Terry Kinney, Gary Busey and David Strathairn.
He has also appeared on a variety of television series such as, "Kung Fu", "The Boys of Twilight" "The Waltons", "Oregon Trail", "Lawman", "Our House", "Seinfeld" and had a recurring role on "Walker, Texas Ranger" starring Chuck Norris in the 1990's.
In addition to his film roles he is also known for appearing on numerous Quaker Oats commercials. He was also diagnosed with diabetes in 1979 and since then he is an advocate for raising awareness.
Wilford Brimley married only once to Lynne Brimley in 1956 and they had four children together and remained married until she passed away in 2000. He is retired from acting and has not re-married. Brimley resides in Wyoming.
