TREVOR HOWARD BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Trevor Wallace Howard Smith was born to Arthur and Mabel on September 29th, 1916 in Clifton, England. He was the son of a Lloyd representative. Until the age of five, he lived in Colombo, Ceylon but then traveled with his mother and at age eight was sent to a school at Clifton College and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. While there, he made his London Stage Debut in 1934 with his first paid work job in, "Revolt in a Reformatory".
During World War II he fought with the Royal Artillery, however he was injured and discharged. He returned to acting and the stage and was actually offered a screen contract with Paramount but rejected and chose to work in the theatre for ten years. This decision seemed to be a god choice when he was offered to join the Stratford Memorial Theatre and was given a role in, "French Without Tears" (1936). The film won an award at the Cannes Film Festival and considerable critical acclaim for Howard. Towards the beginning fo his career, majority of the roles he played were portraying the romantic character of the film, however this soon turned to more heroic leads and even moved on to character roles.
The next two films he starred in were very successful, "I See a Dark Stranger" (1946) and "Green For Danger" (1946). Followeed by even more character roles in, "They Made Me A Fugitive" (1947), "The Passionate Friends" (1949) and "The Third Man" also (1949) which made him one of the key actors of the post war period.
During the late 50's and early 60's he received many different awards for his variety of films. He stared in, "The Key" (1958) for which he received a best actors aeard from the Britsish Academy of Film and television Art and, "Sons and Lovers" (1960), receiving a nominatiom for an Academy Award for Best Actor.
