TOSHIRO MIFUNE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Toshiro Mifune was born on April 1st, 1920 in Tsingtao, China with the birth name Sanchuan Minlang. He was born to Japanese parents but was raised in China and it was not until the age of twenty one that he actually visited Japan.
He graduated from Dalain Middle School and at the age of twenty was drafted into the Japanese Army and served in the Air Force during World War II. After completing his military service he decided to focus on a career as an actor and was soon cast in his first film role in 1947 in, "Shin baka Judai".
After partnering with director Akira Kurosawa he appeared in such films as, "Drunken Angel" (1948), "Rahomon" (1950) and "Red Beard" (1965). The two then parted ways but he continued working in the industry taking on major lead roles in both Japanese and foreign films.
Toshiro was also named Best Actor at the Venice film Festival for his roles in the features, "Yojimbo" and "Akahige". In addition to his acting career, in 1963 he formed his own production company in which he directed one film and produced a number of others.
Mifune also appeared on such television series as, "Shogun" starring Richard Chamberlain, "Suronin makaritoru" and "Edo no Taka" among a number of other television movie roles.
Toshiro Mifune married only once to Sachiko Yoshimine in 1950 and they had three children and remained together until she passed away in 1955. He did not re-marry and on December 24th, 1997, he passed away in Mitala City, in Tokyo Japan from organ failure.
