TOMMY STEELE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Tommy Steele was born on December 17th, 1936 in Bermondsey, London with the birth name Thomas William Hicks. When he first began trying to find employment he found work as a merchant seaman and a number of other odd jobs until he began to develop an interest in music.
Steele began with playing the guitar and banjo and would perform a local coffee shops at various docks that his ship would stop at. He was discovered by professional photographer, John Kennedy in Norfolk, Virginia and was convinced to try and further a career in music.
He relocated back to England and began earning a name for himself as one of England's first rock and roll artists. His became a member of the band, the Steelmen and their hit single, "Rock With The Caveman" (1956) reached number 13 on the UK Singles Chart. A number of other hit singles followed and soon he was also working as an actor on a number of stage musical productions as well as trying his hand in the film industry.
Some of his film roles were on "Half A Sixpence", "The Happiest Millionaire" and "Finian's Rainbow". He also never neglected his love of working on the stage and even starred in his own show called, "Meet Me in London" in 1971. Along with being a talented musician and actor, Steele also took a chance at working as a director and starred in and directed the stage production of "Singin' in the Rain" in 1983.
As his career progressed he continued to tour in a number of different stage plays such as Some Like it Hot", "Scrooge" The Musical" and "Doctor Dolittle". He also proved he had other talents such as writing and publishing a book titled "The Final Run" in the early 1980's and even wrote a children's book called, 'Quincy".
If these amazing talents he possessed were not enough, Steele also proved himself to be a talented sculptor and has at least three of his art pieces displayed. He has only been married one time to Ann Donoghue whom he wed in 1960 and together they have one daughter Emma.
