TOM TYRON BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Tom Tryon was born on January 14th, 1926 in Hartford, Connecticut to Arthur Lane Tryon. After high school, he joined the United States navy and served until 1946. Upon completing his military service he decided to embark on a career in acting.
His career began as a stage actor joining the Cape Playhouse in Dennis, Massachusetts. He worked as an actor as well as designing the sets and behind the scenes work. After gaining some experience he began to appear in such Broadway productions as, "Wish You Were Here" (1952).
Soon Tryon made the move west to Hollywood to try and break into the film industry. His film debut was in 1956 in, "The Scarlet Hour" followed by roles in, "Screaming Eagles" and "Three Violent People" (both 1956).
He became most well known for his role on the Disney television series, "Texas John Slaughter" (1958). Other credits he added to his resume over the course of his career were roles in the films, "Three Violent People" (1956) starring Charlton Heston and Anne Baxter, "I Married a Monster from Outer Space" (1958), "Something's Got to Give" (1962), "Moon Pilot" (1962), "The Longest Day" (1962) and "In Harm's Way" (1965) both starring a host of great actors including John Wayne and Henry Fonda, "The Glory Guys" (1965) and "Winchester '73" (1967) starring James Stewart and Stephen McNally. In 1963, he received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor for his role in the film, "The Cardinal" portraying a Catholic Priest.
Along with film roles he has appeared on numerous television series such as, "Frontier", "The Restless Gun", "Wagon Train", "The Big Valley", "Matinee Theater", "Dr. Kildare" and "The Virginian".
In addition to acting, he decided in 1971 to write his own horror novel titled, "The Other" which was later made into a film, which he wrote and produced. After this experience, his last acting role was in 1971 in, "The Horseman" and then he decided to switch careers and focus on writing horror and mystery novels. Some of his novels include, "Crowned Heads", "Lady", "The Night of the Moonbow" and "Night magic.
Tom Tryon passed away at the age of sixty five on September 4th, 1991 from stomach cancer in Los Angeles, California. He married only one time to Ann Noyes in 1955 and they remained together for only three years. He did not re-marry, although he had various relationships and at one point was involved with Calvin Culver, known as Casey Donovan who worked as a gay pornography actor.
