TOM SKERRITT BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Tom Skerritt was born on August 25th, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan with the middle name Alderton, born to Helen and Roy Skerritt. After graduating from Mackenzie High School, he enrolled at Wayne State university and later transferred to UCLA where he began acting in a number of school productions.
 
During his performance in the play, "The Rainmaker" he caught the attention of a Hollywood scout and soon he was appearing on such films as, "War Hunt" (1962) starring John Saxon, Robert Redford and Charles Aidman.

Skeritt then began to add a variety of television roles to his resume appearing on the series, "Laramie", "The Real McCoys", "Alfred Hitchcock Hour", "My Three Sons", "The Fugitive", "Mannix", "Cimarron Strip", "Wagon Train" and one of his biggest roles in his career on the movie, "M*A*S*H" (1970) starring Donald Sutherland, Elliott Gould, Sally Kellerman, Robert Duvall, Rene Auberjonois, Roger Bowen and in his film debut Fred Williamson. 
 
Now with quite a decent amount of experience on his resume, he returned to the film industry and continued to appear on such features as, "Alien" (1979) co-starring Sigourney Weaver, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm and Yaphet Kotto, "The Dead Zone" (1983) starring Christopher Walken, Martin Sheen, Anthony Zerbe and Colleen Dewhurst, "Top Gun" (1986) starring Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Kelly McGillis, "The Parent Trap II" (1986), "Maid to Order" (1987) also starring Ally Sheedy, Beverly D'Angelo, Michael Ontkean, Valerie Perrine, Dick Shawn and Merry Clayton, "Steel Magnolias" (1989) starring Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, Dolly Parton, Daryl Hannah, Julia Roberts, Dylan McDermott and Sam Shepard, "Poison Ivy" (1992) with stars such as Drew Barrymore, Sara Gilbert, Cheryl Ladd and Leonardo DiCaprio and "Contact" (1997) starring with Jodie Foster, Matthew McConaughey, James Woods, William Fichtner, John Hurt, Angela Bassett and David Morse.
 
As his career has progressed he continues to bounce back and forth between film, stage and television. Such stage productions he has appeared in include, "Love Letters" and "Our Town". More recent television roles include, "Homeland Security", "The Grid", "Brothers and Sisters" and "Leverage".
 
Recent films he has added to his credits are, "Tears of the Sun" (2003) starring Bruce Willis, Monica Bellucci and Cole Hauser, "White Out" (2009) starring Kate Beckinsale and Gabriel Macht, "Redemption Road" (2010) starring Luke Perry, "Don Quixote" (2012) and most recent film role is in, "Soda Springs" (2012). He also dedicates his spare time teaching at THEFILMSCHOOL, which he also co-founded.

Tom Skerritt has married a total of three times, first to Charlotte Shanks in 1957 and they had three children together before divorcing in 1972. He then married Sue Oran in 1977 and together they had one child before this marriage also ended in 1992. His current wife is Julie Tokashiki whom he wed in 1998 and they reside in Seattle, Washington as well as a vacation home on Lopez Island.
