TERRY THOMAS BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Terry Thomas was born on July 14th, 1911 in Finchley, London in England with the birth name Thomas Terry Hoar Stevens, born to Ellen Elizabeth and Earnest Frederick Stevens.
Upon graduating from high school, Thomas went on to earn a degree from Ardingly College and then supported himself by working as a clerk with Union Cold Storage Company.
Thomas then began to develop an interest in acting and started performing in cabaret before breaking into the film industry working as an extra. After World War II he focused more of his attention on entertainment and found work in radio and television.
Some of his more well known roles were on the television series, "How Do You View?", "Strictly T-T", "Friday Night with Terry-Thomas", "Armchair Theatre", "Burke's Law", "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." starring Robert Vaughn, David McCallum and Leo G. Carroll and "The Red Skelton Hour".
Along with television work he made quite a name for himself in the film industry appearing on such features as a small part in the H. G. Wells science fiction, "Things to Come" (1936) starring alongside Raymond Massey, Ralph Richardson, Cedric Hardwicke, Pearl Argyle and Margaretta Scott, then years later
"I'm All Right Jack" (1959) starring Peter Sellers, Ian Carmichael, Richard Attenborough, Dennis Price and Margaret Rutherford, "Lucky Jim" starring with Ian Carmichael, Hugh Griffith and Sharon Acker, "Brothers in Law" also starring Richard Attenborough and Ian Carmichael, (both 1957), "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" (1963) with an ensemble cast including Spencer Tracy, Sid Caesar, Edie Adams, Jonathan Winters, Mickey Rooney, Milton Berle, Ethel Merman, Dorothy Provine, Phil Silvers, Buddy Hackett, Jim Backus, William Demarest, Jimmy Durante, Peter Falk, Jack Benny, Eddie 'Rochester' Anderson, Joe E. Brown, The Three Stooges, ZaSu Pitts, Nick Stewart, Jesse White, Charles McGraw, Jerry Lewis and the list just goes on and on, "Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines" (1965) co-starring Sarah Miles, Stuart Whitman, Robert Morley, Danny Kaye and Red Skelton, "La Grande Vadrouille" (1966), "How Sweet It Is!" (1968) starring James Garner and Debbie Reynolds, "The Cherry Picker" (1974) starring Lulu, Bob Sherman, Wilfrid Hyde-White, Patrick Cargill, Jack Hulbert, Fiona Curzon and Marianne Stone and his final film role was in 1980 in, "Febbre a 40!".
Terry Thomas married twice throughout his lifetime, first in 1938 to Ida Patlanski and they remained together until 1962. He then married his second wife, Belinda Cunningham in 1963 and they had two children together and remained married until he passed away at the age of seventy eight, on January 8th, 1990 in Surrey, England after suffering from Parkinson's disease. His remains were cremated at Guildford Crematorium.
